Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information KG Registration collects when you use our website, text or call us, or visit our office at 1010 Park Ave Unit B, San Jose, CA 95126, and how we use and protect it.
This document is provided in English. Call us if you need help understanding it in Spanish.
1. Who we are
KG Registration ("KG Registration," "we," "us" or "our") is a privately owned vehicle registration service located at 1010 Park Ave Unit B, San Jose, California 95126. We are not the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and are not affiliated with or endorsed by the State of California. This policy applies to our website, our phone and text-message communications, and the services we provide in person.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Contact details: your name, phone number and email address when you fill out a request form, call, text or visit us.
- Request details: what you tell us about the service you need, including vehicle information such as license plate number, VIN, year, make and model.
- Transaction documents: when we process a DMV transaction for you, we handle the documents the transaction requires, which may include your driver license or ID, title, registration, insurance, smog certificate, bill of sale, business information and signatures. Some of these contain sensitive personal information such as your driver license number.
- Payment information: handled at our office through our payment processor. We do not store full card numbers on our website.
Information collected automatically
- Website logs: our web host may record standard server logs such as IP address, browser type, pages visited and timestamps.
- Language preference: the site stores your English or Spanish choice in your browser's local storage. This is not shared with us.
- Fonts: our pages load typefaces from Google Fonts, which means your browser sends a request, including your IP address, to Google when a page loads. See Google's privacy policy for details.
Information from text messages
When you tap a "Text us" button or text our number, your mobile carrier delivers your phone number and message content to us. We keep message history so we can follow up on your request.
3. How we use your information
- To respond to your request and tell you what documents your case needs.
- To prepare, submit and complete DMV transactions you ask us to handle.
- To contact you by phone, text message or email about your request, your appointment or the status of your paperwork.
- To keep records required by the DMV, tax authorities and other laws.
- To protect our business, prevent fraud and enforce our Terms of Service.
We do not use your information for automated decision-making, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.
4. Text messaging (SMS) consent
By texting us, submitting your phone number through a form, or asking us to text you, you consent to receive text messages from KG Registration about your request. Messages are transactional and related to the service you asked about. Message frequency varies by request. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to stop receiving texts, or HELP for help. Your mobile phone number and your consent to receive texts will not be shared with or sold to third parties for their marketing purposes.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only as follows:
- The DMV and government agencies: to complete the transaction you requested, we submit required information and documents to the California DMV and, where applicable, other agencies such as the Bureau of Automotive Repair or county tax collectors.
- Service providers: companies that help us run our business, such as website hosting, form and customer-relationship software, text-messaging and phone providers, and payment processors. They may use your information only to provide services to us.
- Legal reasons: when required by law, subpoena or court order, or to protect the rights, property or safety of KG Registration, our customers or others.
- Business transfers: if our business is sold or merged, customer records may be transferred to the new owner, who will be bound by this policy.
6. Cookies, tracking and "Do Not Track"
Our website does not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics trackers. It uses browser local storage only to remember your language choice. Because we do not track visitors across other websites, our site does not respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals, which California law requires us to disclose.
7. How long we keep information
We keep request and transaction records for as long as needed to provide the service and to meet DMV, tax and other legal record-keeping requirements, which can be several years. Website form submissions and text message threads are kept while we are helping you and for a reasonable period afterward so we can answer follow-up questions, then deleted or anonymized.
8. How we protect information
We use reasonable physical, technical and administrative safeguards to protect personal information, including secure storage of paper documents in our office and password-protected systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach of your unencrypted personal information occurs, we will notify you as required by California Civil Code section 1798.82.
9. Children
Our services are for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16, and we do not sell the personal information of consumers under 16. If you believe a minor has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Your California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (together, the "CCPA"), may give you the following rights to the extent the law applies to our business:
- Right to know: what categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, where we got it, why we use it and who we share it with.
- Right to delete: ask us to delete personal information we collected from you, subject to exceptions such as records we must keep by law.
- Right to correct: ask us to fix inaccurate personal information.
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing: we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of.
- Right to limit use of sensitive personal information: we use sensitive information such as driver license numbers only to complete the services you request, which the CCPA permits without a separate limit.
- Right to non-discrimination: we will not treat you differently for exercising these rights.
The categories of personal information we have collected in the past 12 months are: identifiers (name, phone, email, address, driver license number); customer records (vehicle, title and insurance information, payment information); commercial information (services requested and purchased); internet activity (standard server logs); and, where a transaction requires it, information that may be considered sensitive under the CCPA (government ID numbers). We collect these from you directly, from documents you provide and from the DMV. We use them for the purposes in section 3 and disclose them to the parties in section 5.
To exercise your rights, call us at 669-899-8133, visit our office, or write to KG Registration, 1010 Park Ave Unit B, San Jose, CA 95126. We will need to verify your identity, usually by matching the details you give us against our records or asking to see your ID. You may also use an authorized agent if the agent provides written permission from you and we can verify your identity. We respond within 45 days, or tell you if we need more time.
"Shine the Light" (Civil Code section 1798.83): we do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top shows when it was last changed. If we make a material change, we will post the new policy on this page, and where we have your contact information and the change affects how we use it, we will notify you by text or email.
